Hi, I was just visiting your page and wanted to say I really enjoyed it. I used to have pigeons in the past and want to start up again. I loved taking them out and letting them fly back to the loft. My loft at the former house was located atop my garage but was very difficult to access. I fell off the ladder once. I live in a very cold climate Superior, WI. about as far north as you can go. I have an extremely large yard and I want to build some sort of loft on ground level. I don't want to keep many birds I think the most I had before was; around 15 and I thought that was great. My birds from before were all white homers although there was no way to verify that accept that they were white and could return from 40 miles away. Is there any other places that a person might find Plans for lofts? I liked the pic's of a couple of lofts on your site. Also do you have any suggestions for birds. I like the homing pigeon but do not want to go broke buying them Anyway thanks, and I am sorry for rambling. Len Mark Orme, You have created an absolutely beautiful website. We spent upward of 3 hours browsing through it reading the Newsletters and looking at the many great pictures. There is one picture of a loft with some pretty good sized hills in the background. You must live at the edge of town. The Red Orientals were gorgeous as of course were the Blacks and Almonds. If we wanted to buy 3 or 4 pair s with assorted colors but including those we just mentioned. When would they be available and what would you charge for several pairs? We would just as soon pick up some breeding age birds so that they could go to work producing some young that we would be able to fly later. One thing wasn't too clear from the literature. Do they need to be kept locked up like Homers or do the old birds settle so that they could be let out to fly at a new home? Thanks for some info on
a possible purchase Mr. Orme. I am a curmudgeon of 70 yrs and raised only Old Dutch Capuchines for the past five years or so. We Had 70 last Fall and free flew them so they'd enjoy themselves. A red tailed hawk took one a day '[till I was down to 18). Now raising them back. Luckily the gene pool will bring back my favorite colors sooner or later. The hawk defense of the Flying Oriental Rollers is of great interest to me. Please help me get birds worth working with! Gus Harber. Ottawa

Hi Mark! I bought 3 Flying Oriental Rollers from Mark Orme about 6 months ago. I have now 12 with 3 pairs on eggs. I found the Orientals to be a great breeder. I'm looking forward when I am able to fly a full kit. I had a mix kit with Orientals & Birmingham's. The 4 Orientals I had mixed with 10 Birmingham's flew in a nice tight kit. In this kit I lost 6 Birmingham's to raptors. I noticed the Orientals out-flew the raptors and seem to be much smarter as far as diving down and trapping in. Two out of the 4 were starting to turn (roll). I pulled all 4 and am now using them for stock. In my opinion the Flying Oriental Roller is a Beautiful bird to look at and an entertaining bird in the air. Thanks Mark, .Randy
Colson Mark, Your web-page graphics and photos are great. I am an old Birmingham roller man and am wondering what are the performance differences between Orientals and Birmingham's.. Also I would like to know if you have any birds for sale (for stock purposes) and what is the ballpark price per pair! Tony Pauper Hello. How are things down south? Well here in WV sort of damp. I was very intrigued by your website and appreciate the article. I too have liked pigeons from a child and just in the past year have been acquiring some birds I've always liked. I currently have runts and one lone pair of mookees. As a kid I was introduced to tumblers, but we were just country people and they were just pigeons. I'd like to start a loft of these beautiful birds and if I could help save the breed then all the better. I'm not into shows, I just like watching them fly. Color isn't my motivation neither is winning a show. Do you have any rollers you could sell. Older birds, young that don't exactly fit what you are trying to do, or even breeders you don't wish to use any longer. I'd be extremely interested in any of your older European stock. Well I'd appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks Jay Hello Mark & Dora, I'm looking for a pair of Flying Oriental Roller's. I live in Central California. Fresno, area. If you have some for sale please provide me with a price. If not, can you provide me to a breeder's name who will sell a few pairs! Thanks, Maurice Hi, Just would like to know if you have any Red in color or Black young birds for sale? My son and I are just starting out and saw your birds and like the Reds & blacks. Thank you ............. |
