Vice-President's Message

It is one thing to buy birds (if you can find what you are looking for) and quite another to become a breeder. This little transition took us about two years to accomplish. After studying the Oriental Rollers and scouring the planet for written material, we now have a good idea of what we want to raise.

Both Dora and I were hoping to visit the Pageant of Pigeons last year but we had a son on the way. Mark-Alan was born December 23, 1998. Naturally we decided that this year we would have no problem being there to support the birds. It turns out that we are not only raising pigeons but we seem to be doing quite well with human genes as we are expecting a little girl this December 13, 1999. Dora and I have decided that two children will be quite enough. From now on we will concentrate on raising birds.

Texas is great for raising youngsters early. Most of our Oriental Rollers will be allowed to produce as soon as December 1, 1999. The birds will have completely finished their molt and the temperature here is still in the 80’s . We want to concentrate on raising classic almond and reds during the next year and hope to produce quite a few keepers. Possibly showing some at next years’ Pageant Of Pigeons.

In the past year we have only lost one bird to a known hawk attack. This particular bird was only 6 weeks old.

Throughout this article there are, yes you guessed it more pictures of our birds. As I said earlier I would much rather feature your birds and articles so start typing or email me. These photos are youngsters that we raised this past year and as you can see our favorite color just happens to be almond. We are hoping to raise about twenty more this year and with a little bit of help from our Homers, we should be able to accomplish our lofty goal.

Your articles and comments are always welcome and if you have any suggestions regarding the newsletter we would like to hear from you . Good luck with your birds and we hope to hear from you soon .

Best Regards,
Mark & Dora
