Both Worlds in Hawaii
Being fairly new to the Flying Oriental Roller. I would like to introduce myself to all of you and write a little about myself and my Oriental Rollers.
My name is Walter Wojcieski, I'm 30 years old and married with 3 children. I have lived in Hawaii all my life. Being fairly new to the flying type of Oriental Roller I may not know a lot about them, but I do know Oriental Rollers. I have raised the show type since 1981. In the early eighties I had flown Show type Oriental Rollers a few years and had a lot of fun doing so.
I raise the show type Orientals mainly in Black; Andalusion, Red, Yellow and Almond.
I was looking for better color for my show type almond Oriental Rollers this year and after reading an article in the rare breeds special in the Pigeon Debut, written by George, I was really impressed how George was trying to preserve the Flying Oriental Roller and also start a Flying Club.
I have known George since the early eighties, I was first introduced to him by the late Teddy Hull, while visiting California for the summer. I could see back then that George had a lot of interest in Flying Oriental Rollers. George picked me up at Teddy's and showed me his loft of Oriental Rollers and a kit he was flying.
Last year I wrote George a letter letting him know how I thought a lot about him trying to preserve the flying and performance in our Orientals. George sent me some photos of his birds.
In the pictures I saw what I was looking for, almond color! I wanted my show type Oriental Rollers almond color to look like the English Short- Faced Tumbler, which has the true almond color as the old timers see almond. George had the color! George agreed to sell me some birds in the color I requested. When they arrived I was really happy with the color, but I saw the drastic change from show type as George warned me I would.
I fell in love with these birds, thanks George. I plan to fly my young kit soon.
I have raised 12 Flying Oriental Rollers in Almond, Red, Blue and silver while also I have raised 60 Show Type Oriental Rollers. I can say I have it all in Oriental Rollers in the showroom and the Flying type for top performance.
Aloha,
Walter and Family
